Fragrance
There are paintings you make — and then there are paintings that make you.
Fragrance is mine.
Named after its creator — Foram, a name that itself means fragrance — this painting carries a deeply personal soul. It was my first oil painting, and every stroke within it holds the tenderness of a beginning — careful, hopeful and full of quiet resolve.
The petals do not simply bloom on the canvas; they tell stories. Each one is painted with its own palette, its own personality — a deliberate celebration of diversity, of the beauty that lives in difference. The colours do not clash — they embrace, blending into one another with the grace of things that were always meant to meet. To paint Fragrance was to understand, for the first time, what oil as a medium truly feels like — its richness, its depth, its willingness to carry emotion without losing it.
Fragrance was selected for a group exhibition by the University of Arts Singapore and the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, chosen from among a strong field of accomplished artists. For a debut in oil — it was a moment that meant everything. Like its name, this painting does not announce itself loudly. It simply stays with you — long after you have looked away.
